Freeing Your Weight Through Emotional Freedom Technique

- A diet-free approach to weight loss.

Diets don’t work – in the long run.   I know, I’ve tried a few of them myself including Weight Watchers, the South Beach diet, and “cleanse” diets.  I’ve taught fitness classes and used vigorous exercising as a way to compensate for the food I eat.  Diet and exercise worked for a while, and I did see results; however, in the long run, neither of those approaches has worked to sustain my ideal weight.

Researchers at the University of California - Los Angeles (UCLA) reported in the April 2007 issue of the American Psychologist  “ People on diets typically lose 5 to 10 percent of their starting weight in the first six months. However, at least one-third to two-thirds of people on diets regain more weight than they lost within four or five years, and the true number may well be significantly higher”.   This is certainly true for me.  Of the 50 million Americans who will start weight loss plans this year, only some 5% will eventually keep the weight off.

Why oh why does this happen?  The reason? When we eat more than our body requires, we are no longer feeding our natural hunger, we are feeding something else.  If you struggle with weight issues, chances are you are using food to satisfy needs other than hunger.  You might be using food to calm yourself down, or trying to use food to raise your mood and energy levels.

Diets tend to focus on the food – how many calories or carbohydrates contained, portion size, or eating frequency.  We don’t spend enough time on the internal process of discovering what feelings are driving our eating behaviours.  We also give very little focus to how different foods make our bodies feel and tend to settle for temporary comfort that can be achieved through eating.

Restrictive diets fail because they don’t address the emotions and stress that are driving our eating.   In fact, the diet itself can trigger feelings of deprivation, guilt and loneliness, the very emotions that trigger over eating in the first place.  If we can eliminate the negative emotions that cause over eating, the individual will not longer have the desire to eat in order to feel calmer, more satisfied or more energized.

What is the answer?  Deal with the emotions first.  There is an amazingly simple process called Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) that incorporates tapping on the body to eliminate stress and anxiety.  The technique uses the principles of acupuncture and acupressure on the body’s energy meridians to free energy blocks that keep us doing the same behaviours over and over.  EFT is an effective and safe way to free an individual of feelings of anger, sadness, worry and boredom that can trigger excess eating.

I have seen dramatic results, including individuals being able to give up cravings in a matter of minutes.  I have helped individuals reduce their sensitivity to certain foods so that they can enjoy them again.   EFT helps to rid us of old “programming”, including ideas such as “you must clean your plate”, “don’t waste food”, and “you can have a treat if you are good”.  This technique will help you to stop sabotaging your efforts to reach and maintain your ideal weight.

When you’ve tried everything else… try EFT!
